Appreciating our Pastors & Ministers through Prayer // A Podcast Series by Mary Ann Bridgwater // Pray Today
In verses 12-13a he said, “Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to give recognition to those who labor among you and lead you in the Lord and admonish you, and to regard them very highly [esteem them] in love because of their work” (CSB).
My heart was so drawn by the Spirit of God through His Word, just as when the disciples were on the road to Emmaus. As Jesus was with the disciples, he broke bread with them, gave them revelation, and set their hearts ablaze (Luke 24:30-32). That’s the only way I can describe how my heart was ignited when I read those words in 1 Thessalonians. As Paul wrote, we ought to respect those who labor among us, our pastors and ministers.
I continued to search the heart of God through the empowerment of the Spirit. He counseled me through prayer and showed me the way I should go so I can share with you today how to step out into that truth and highly regard our pastors and our ministers. We know it is important to share our appreciation for our pastors and ministers. There are many suggestions on the internet for doing this, such as giving them gift cards, cooking dinner for their family, etc.
I went forward with the steps that God gave me as my heart was set ablaze from this truth. I contacted a few pastors in the city and asked them if they would share with you why it is important to pray for our pastors.
Pastor Joe Sanders, from The Sanctuary Fellowship, will speak about who should be praying for our pastors. Second, Pastor Rickie Bradshaw, from First Southwest Baptist Church, will talk about what it is we ought to pray. We will then have the opportunity to hear from Pastor Roger Patterson, a pastor at West U Baptist Church, about why we should pray for our pastors. Finally, Pastor Lee Hsia, a pastor at Houston’s First Baptist Church Downtown, will answer how do we pray for our pastors.
These are questions that you may have had as a lay person in the church. It is essential that we, the bride of Christ, adhere to those truths that Paul shared with the Thessalonians. God is speaking this today to each one of us, that we are to pray for our pastors, highly esteem them, and show our appreciation for their hard work. As they serve us, we should serve them through prayer.
Stay tuned in these next few podcasts that come from the very heart of our pastors and our ministers in the city. Praying for our pastors and our ministers should be an ongoing activity, not just in the month of October. We should show our appreciation continually by taking the sword of the Spirit and supporting them from the truth of God’s Word.
Join me as we share our appreciation throughout all seasons for our pastors and our ministers and praying by faith the heart of God from His Scripture!
